Infrastructures
Infrastructures provide the capacity for all users to be able to share and process all types of information immediately from any location.
Today, the transmission of enormous amounts of information at a very fast speed requires a huge bandwidth. Broadband is the cornerstone of future Internet development and the Information Society. One of the main drawbacks will be the huge economic effort that needs to be made, both by companies as well as by the State and the users, in order to achieve sufficient infrastructures (computer terminals, networks, servers...) to reach the type of communication and interactivity specified. Therefore, one of the debates is the role of the public sector in the creation of infrastructures and its relation with technological operators.
In the last few years, some interesting municipal initiatives such as Wi-Fi have set up a public telecommunications network that allows access to the Internet at a certain speed. The possibility of a free service could mean "unfair competition" and this is one of the current debates.
